What this seed bead pattern maker is
Beadalia is a free online bead pattern maker that runs in the browser — no install, no native app. You paint seed beads on a grid whose cells are Delica cylinders in true proportions (taller than they are wide), not coloured squares. A blank canvas opens as loom / square stitch on 11/0; you switch stitch and size in the canvas panel.
Drawing, catalogue browsing and a live local draft are free and do not need an account. The draft is not capped. Once you sign in, the free plan allows five named saved designs — updating one you already saved does not use a new slot, and palettes are not under that cap.

The working palette is the Miyuki Delica catalogue
The editor paints from the catalogue — 1,897 size-specific Miyuki Delica beads, which is 1,266 distinct colours (every colour exists in 11/0). The four editor sizes are 11/0 (DB), 15/0 (DBS), 10/0 (DBM) and 8/0 (DBL). Each bead carries its DB code, the catalogue name, glass type, finish, durability and whether it contains nickel.
Filter by size, family, glass, finish and durability (the durability control also covers nickel). Type a DB code in the search box — that is how you look a code up; there is no separate code filter. Order by code, not by the on-screen swatch. Swatches are synthetic renders generated from the hex, glass type and finish — not photographs — and metallic or AB finishes look different in hand.

Counts, grams, finished size, thread and needle
The materials panel is free. It lists pieces per colour, plus painted, full-canvas and empty totals. Grams are pieces divided by beads-per-gram for the size you picked: 290 for 15/0, 190 for 11/0, 110 for 10/0, 50 for 8/0. Finished width and height are shown in millimetres, centimetres or inches; typing a physical W or H converts it to columns or rows.
If you have entered grams in inventory, the panel marks each colour as enough, short, or missing. That check is free and does not need Pro.
Thread estimate
Loom uses a warp-plus-weft estimate; every other stitch uses a conservative full-canvas figure. Display is free. Using those metres to price thread is Pro, on the cost card.
Needle lookup
A beading-needle size is looked up from the Delica you picked, not computed from the grid: nr. 12–13 on 15/0, nr. 10–12 on 11/0, nr. 10 on 10/0 and 8/0.
Production cost — Pro
Cost and profit cards are Pro. There is no global bead price list: figures use the prices you typed in your own inventory. Unpriced colours are marked missing, not treated as zero. A visitor who entered nothing cannot be given an honest cost.
PNG, PDF and the word chart
PNG export is free and does not need an account. A personal PDF (Beadalia cover, legend, chart, word chart) is free once you are signed in — it is an account gate, not a Pro gate. The shop-branded PDF, with your logo, colours and cover, is Pro.
The word chart is a run-length list of each row, left to right across the grid — free in Follow, and included in the personal PDF (account) and the shop-branded PDF (Pro, unless you turn it off). It captions the picture on screen. It is not a serpentine stitch-order chart.
Follow itself is free: enter, space, tap or arrows move row by row. Turning a photo into a Delica grid is a separate page — with a free account you get one photo conversion, preview and apply included; further photos are Pro.

No install. It is a browser app, including on a Mac. There is no Mac app and no PWA.
Can I turn a photo into a bead pattern?
Yes. Upload in the editor with a free account: your first photo converts and applies to the canvas at no cost. Converting more photos is Pro.
How is production cost calculated?
With Pro, from the prices you entered on your own inventory — cost per gram you actually paid. There is no built-in bead price list. Colours without a price show a dash, not zero.
What is the word chart?
A left-to-right, grid-order run-length list of each row. Free in Follow; included in the personal PDF (account) and the shop-branded PDF (Pro). It is not a peyote stitch-order chart.
Can I sell patterns I make here?
Designs you create are yours. The personal PDF is free with an account. The shop-branded PDF — your logo, colours and cover — is Pro.
